Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery – FESS

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive procedure that restores healthy sinus function and relieves chronic nasal blockage. Using a thin, illuminated endoscope inserted through the nostrils, the surgeon visualizes the sinus passages and gently removes polyps, scar tissue, or inflamed mucosa that obstruct drainage. Because the technique avoids external incisions, patients experience less postoperative pain, minimal scarring, and a quicker return to daily activities- often in a week.

FESS is most commonly recommended for patients who have not responded to medication, nasal sprays or allergy treatment for conditions such as chronic sinusitis, allergic fungal rhinosinusitis, invasive fungal rhinosinusitis, recurrent sinus infections, nasal polyps, and sinus headaches. The procedure can be tailored to each individual’s anatomy, allowing the surgeon to target only the affected sinuses while preserving healthy tissue. Recovery typically involves saline nasal rinses, nasal steroids, and a follow‑up appointment to clear any crusting. Most people report significant improvement in breathing, facial pressure, and overall quality of life within a few weeks. If you are suffering from persistent sinus symptoms, consulting an ENT specialist can determine whether FESS is the right solution for you.
