Nasal Tumours

Nasal tumors can occur at any age though they are more common in the elderly. We may suspect tumors in patients who have a history of bleeding with nasal blocking (specially one sided), watering from the eyes, swelling etc. On examination, one can often see a mass in the nasal cavity. In children, one can get an Angiofibroma which usually presets as unilateral bleeding in the adolescent age group. These are very vascular tumors and will require surgery.

Most of them can be removed endoscopically. In the middle to late middle age, Inverted papillomas are common and again can be dealt with endoscopically. In the elderly, one may have more malignant that benign tumors which may be done with an endoscopic or open (external) approach depending on size and spread. However, there is a vast spectrum of tumors that can occur in the nasal and sinus cavities and a biopsy may be required to achieve a diagnosis.
